Uhpenry Open-Source Pledge
Uhpenry's commitment to supporting open-source projects that fuel our platform.
At Uhpenry, we understand that the success of our platform relies heavily on the open-source project (libraries, frameworks etc). We are committed to supporting the development and sustainability of open-source projects by donating a portion of our revenue. This document outlines our pledge, the evolution of our donations, and how we plan to support the open-source ecosystem as Uhpenry grows.
1. Commitment to Open-Source Projects
Uhpenry recognizes the invaluable contributions of open-source tools and libraries, which enable us to build and operate our platform. We are dedicated to supporting these projects by donating a portion of our revenue to help ensure their continued growth and development.
2. Donation Percentage
- Initial Commitment: Starting with 1% of Uhpenry's annual revenue, we will donate to open-source projects that contribute to our platform's infrastructure and functionality.
- Gradual Increase: As Uhpenry grows and our revenue increases, we will gradually increase our donation percentage. The percentage will be adjusted annually based on predetermined revenue thresholds.
- Maximum Cap: Our donations will cap at 10% of annual revenue. Once we reach a specific revenue milestone (to be defined as we grow), we will allocate 10% of our annual revenue to open-source initiatives.
3. Transparency of Donations
We believe in transparency and accountability. To ensure our users are informed about how their participation helps support the open-source community, we will:
- Publish Regular Reports: We will share detailed reports on the total donations made, the percentage allocated to each project, and the open-source projects supported.
- Track Donations Publicly: Users will be able to access donation information directly through the Uhpenry platform to see the impact of their involvement in our ecosystem.
4. Eligible Open-Source Projects
We will direct our donations to projects that are integral to Uhpenry's operation, including but not limited to:
- Core Development Tools: Frontend and backend libraries, frameworks, deployment tools, and database systems.
- User Experience Enhancements: Open-source projects that help improve the security, performance, and user experience of Uhpenry.
- Supporting Initiatives: Projects aligned with Uhpenry's mission to foster a collaborative and sustainable development environment.
We also plan to give users the opportunity to suggest open-source projects for consideration in future donation cycles.
5. Donation Distribution Process
- Annual Donations: At the end of each fiscal year, we will calculate the total revenue generated by Uhpenry and allocate the designated percentage (starting at 1%) to the chosen open-source projects.
- Donation Method: Donations will be made through established funding channels, such as GitHub Sponsors, and Open Collective.
- Confirmation and Acknowledgment: We will provide acknowledgment and confirmation of donations to the relevant open-source projects through email and public statements.
6. Review and Adjustment of the Pledge
We understand that business dynamics may change, and we reserve the right to review and adjust our donation strategy as needed. Any changes will be communicated to our users, and we encourage feedback on:
- Donation Strategy: How we can improve the effectiveness of our donations.
- Project Selection: Suggestions for open-source projects that should benefit from our pledge.
7. Tax Considerations
Donations are calculated based on Uhpenry's annual revenue before taxes. While the donations are part of our operational expenses, users should be aware that these contributions may not be tax-deductible for individuals or organizations that use the platform.
8. Limitation of Liability for Donations
Uhpenry aims to direct donations responsibly, but we do not take responsibility for how the funds are utilized by the recipient projects. Once donations are made, they are non-refundable.
9. User Participation in the Pledge
While users do not directly contribute to the donation percentage, their continued engagement with Uhpenry plays a crucial role in generating the revenue that funds these contributions. We encourage users to:
- Support Open-Source Projects: Engage with and contribute to open-source initiatives, whether through code contributions, documentation, or financial support.
- Provide Feedback: Share ideas for improving our open-source donation strategy or recommend projects that should be considered for future donations.
